Hi Donna. The carbonation does help with the texture but yes it will turn out fine using flat Dr Pepper.

Is this regular Dr pepper or is there an actual cherry version. To me Dr P tastes like black cherry

Hi Cindy. This recipe uses a cherry version of Dr Pepper. You could use regular Dr Pepper as well.

Is it possible to make this in two 8 or 9 inch round pans rather than a 9×13? I assume it would change the bake time and require more frosting, but any reason they might not stack well?

Hi Kate. I’ve never tried that, but the round pans should work fine.

Hey Susan, you will need about 16 oz but will not use them all. You will need about 27 for the recipe and some juice. You can use some of these for the frosting and garnish if you wish.

I love Chocolate and Cherry Dr. Pepper so the combination in a cake sounds amazing. Question, would it be okay to use Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper instead or does the recipe need the real sugar to make it work?

Cherry Dr Pepper is my beverage of choice so I’m excited to try this recipe. Maybe I missed it, how much cherry juice is needed in the frosting, please

Don’t we have to only use 10 ounces of soda, since the recipe was created when cake mixes came in 18.5 oz boxes and they only come in 15.5 ounce boxes now? It seems to be that 1/6 of the cake mix is missingl. We have to decrease the amount of soda to compensate, so 10 oz instead of the entire 12 oz can. Just my brain doing some math.

I just bought an extra cake mix and used 3 more Oz (about 1/2C) I’m pretty put out with these company’s for doing this without any announcement that I heard if anyway.. lots of failed recipes without this knowledge .
