Step-By-Step Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly spray a 9x13 inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
Add both cans of cherry pie filling to the casserole dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and vanilla extract. Stir to combine and smooth into an even layer.

Add the cake mix over the top of the cherry filling. Top the cake mix with the thin slices of butter.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes or until the cake mix is golden brown. After the first 10 minutes use a spatula to even out any melted butter that is not covering dry cake mix.

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 24 pieces
