Thank you to our #RecordingAcademy New York Chapter members, artists Papoose, Torae, Ray Angry, and peers in the community for advocating in support of AB127 this week.If passed in the state, the bill would limit the use of artists' creative work as evidence in a trial. Our efforts continue to protect music creators' expression, and get AB127 through the Assembly and to the Governor’s desk so it can be signed into law.

Thanks to GCMA member, Carlos Moreno Clemente for sharing his latest article: "Disruptive Behaviors at Events: The Post-Pandemic Challenge", which references GCMA members, Eric Stuart QPM, John Drury and Steven Adelman."More and more cases are emerging of people seeking their 'moment of fame' with 'out-of-place' actions that affect the security of musicians, actors, athletes and other prominent individuals. The live music industry, for example, questions the role of mobile phones in these types of events (they throw them at the artists), as they alter the experience for attendees, in addition to other legal aspects." The news that record labels are planning to enforce new rules that would prevent artists from re-recording their projects after a certain period of time has major legal implications. This move appears to be a direct response to the success of Taylor Swift's "Taylor's Version" releases, in which she re-recorded her first six albums to regain control of her masters. The potential legal implications of this change could include:- A violation of artists' intellectual property rights- Increased power imbalances between artists and labels- A chilling effect on artists' creativity and innovation- The potential for record labels to misuse their powerfollow and connect with me for more music business related insights ✨

Attention all artists and musicians! Have you heard about neighboring rights? Let us break it down for you in a nutshell. Neighboring rights refer to the right to be compensated for the use of your music in public performances or broadcasts. It's a way for performers and recording artists to earn royalties for their hard work. When your music is played on the radio, streamed online, played in a public venue, or even used in TV shows and movies, neighboring rights come into play. These rights recognize that artists contribute their talent and effort to the success of a song, alongside the songwriters and composers. So, if you're involved in the recording or performance of a track, neighboring rights could be your ticket to additional income! By joining TTCCO, you can ensure that you receive fair compensation when your music is used in various public platforms. So, fellow creators, remember to protect your artistic endeavors and explore neighboring rights to secure what you rightfully deserve! #NeighboringRights #MusicIndustry #Royalties #ttco

With the Turtles, Mark Volman had a surprise hit that became a legacy, "Happy Together," but did you know that he's also a trailblazer for artist rights and copyright protection? Moreover, he's a college professor on the topic, and the advice he has for today's performers is critical (and can be found at the end of this article - clickbait!).
