Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones (1)

These Dark Chocolate Cherry Sconeswere afluke. When I went to the store last Friday to pick up a few extra things for the weekend I noticed that Publix was having a great deal on cherries. So I picked out my favorite ones & brought them home knowing that they would be my special treat since my husband isn’t a big fan of cherries.

Then that night I was craving chocolate & scones & since the cherries were just sitting there I decided to add them in too! And then I fell in love. Yes, you read that right. I am completely in love with these Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones! My husband tried one & he loved them too! Yes the same guy who doesn’t normally like cherries thought these were the best scones he had ever tasted!

Unfortunately, these Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones didn’t last long in our home since Roger & I ate them rather quickly. So I might have to go back to the store & get more cherries & dark chocolate so I can make these yummy scones again soon!

Although to be completely honest I feel like these Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones triggered something & I have nowentered another scone craze in whichall I want to do is make lots & lots of scones all the time. What do you think? Should I just keep surprising Roger with a new type of scone everyday?

There is even a small part of me that wants to make savory scones, but my sweet tooth hasn’t let go of my desire to make more dark chocolate scones… So until then I will probably just keep making these mouth watering Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones!

Ingredients:

2 & 3/4 Cups Flour + Extra for Stickiness

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Pinch Salt

¼ Cup Sugar

1 Stick of Cold Butter (1/2 cup)

½ Cup Half&Half or Heavy Cream – obviously the richer the better but to be “healthy” milk also works

½ cup French Vanilla Creamer + 1-2 tablespoons extra

¾ Cup Chopped Dark Chocolate

¾CupSeeded & Chopped Cherries

First, preheat your oven to 400° degrees, then in a bowl sift together all of the dry ingredients. 2 & 3/4 cups flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 pinch of salt, &¼ cup sugar.

Use your hands to crumble the butter into the dry ingredients. You want the butter crumbles to be small, about the size of a pea, &dispersed throughout the dry ingredients.

Next, fold in the ¾ cup dark chocolate & ¾ cup seeded & chopped cherries.

Then make a well, pour in your ½ cup of half &half and your ½ cup of French vanilla creamer, &gently combine. Make sure that you don’t over mix, simply make sure that all of the ingredients are evenly combined.

You can skip to the next step if you are in a hurry, but I like to place my scone dough in the freezer for 30-45 minutes so that the butter gets nice & cold. That way there will be yummy pockets of butter in your scones.

Splitthe Dark Chocolate Cherry Scone dough in half & place both halves on a well floured surface &using your hands shape the dough into round disks making sure it is about 1 & 1/2 inches thick. Putting a little extra flour on top of the dough when shaping it will help prevent stickiness.

Next, cut the dough into the perfect scone shape by using a pizza cutter.Place the scones on parchment paper and brush each scone generously with French vanilla creamer. Placethe scones in your preheatedoven and bake them for 20 minutes. The Dark Chocolate Cherry Scones are complete when they are lightly golden.

While the scones are cooling, this is the perfect time to make the French vanilla icing. Combine ¾ cup of powdered sugar& 3 tbs French vanilla creamer in a small bowl – if the icing is too thick add more french vanilla creamer, if it is too thin add more powdered sugar.
